In a large sauté pan on medium heat, add the butter and olive oil. Once the butter is melted add in the sliced onions and season with salt and pepper. Let the onions caramelize, stirring often for about 20-30 minutes or until they are a nice dark color.

While the onions are caramelizing, bring 6 quarts of water to a boil and season the water with salt.

Drop the pasta into the boiling water and cook for about 13 minutes or until al dente. (NOTE: Cook to the instructions on the package depending on which pasta you are using).

To the same pan with the caramelized onions, add the red pepper flake, minced garlic, sun dried tomatoes, and lemon juice. Continue to cook for about 30 seconds or until you begin to smell the garlic then add the wine.

After a few minutes the wine will reduce then add in the heavy cream, and parmesan cheese. Give everything a stir until the cheese is melted into the sauce then reduce the heat of the pan to medium/low. Gently simmer the sauce for about 2 minutes or until the sauce has thickened slightly.

Now add in the basil, parsley, and the cooked pasta. Give everything a toss until combined then taste the pasta and adjust the seasoning to your liking.

Enjoy! Caramelized Onion Pasta
